Surgical Pathologist with Subspecialty Experience

UniPath, one of the largest multi-subspecialty pathology groups in the Western United States, has an immediate opening for a surgical pathologist with subspecialty expertise. This is a partnership track position. We are particularly interested in applicants with fellowship training in genitourinary and gastrointestinal pathology. Responsibilities will include general anatomic, cytology and clinical pathology as well as subspecialty consultation in their area of expertise. Board certification or eligibility in anatomic and clinical pathology is required.

MT - Flow Cytometry

This position is responsible for the processing of specimens such as bone marrow, blood, various tissues and body fluids for the analysis and diagnosis in Flow Cytometry. Other responsibilities include the prep, stain and counting of bone marrow aspirate specimens.

Responsibilities:
  • Process specimens for Flow Cytometry. Specimens include bone marrow aspirates, peripheral blood, tissues, FNA’s and body fluids.
  • Stain processed specimens using monoclonal antibodies.  Acquire stained specimen data on the FACScaliburs flow cytometer.
  • Prepare and perform differential counts on bone marrow aspirate smears.
  • Perform routine CBC on peripheral blood specimens for inclusion with bone marrow morphology reports.
  • Perform accurate accessioning of patient specimens.
  • Maintain working knowledge of equipment used in the Flow Cytometry lab.
  • Ensure proper cleaning, maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments.
  • Preparation of reagents for use in the Flow laboratory.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree with major coursework in one of the major physical sciences or advanced coursework in flow cytometry.
  • Previous Flow Cytometry or Hematology experience preferred
  • Medical Technologist Certification (ASCP or equivalent)
  • Effective communication skills

Cytology Processing Tech / Non-Gyn

Processes Gyn and Non-Gyn Cytology specimens. Performs additional duties to support the functioning of the Cytology Department. This is a full-time position, Tuesday-Thursday: 1:30pm-10:00pm; Friday: 10:00am-7:00pm, & Saturday: 5:00am-1:30pm.

Responsibilities:
  • Assigns accession number to non-gynecological specimens; records date, number of slides received and description of fluids. Logs in all specimens accurately. Follows established procedures for hospital cases. Records number of specimens accessioned & processed in department workload log.
  • Maintains working knowledge of cover-slipping technique, slide filing, retrieval, send out and consults according to procedure.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Shandon Vari-stain stainer, ThinPrep 2000, Cytospin and all technical equipment used in the processing of all gynecological and non-gynecological samples.
  • Assist pathologist on FNA procedures.
  • Assist in maintaining adequate inventory of consumable supplies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Post secondary education in the science field preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of biology – will receive on-the-job training.
  • Knowledge of handling biohazardous materials – will receive appropriate training.
  • Skill in communicating and collaboration both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in effectively working with all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to effectively problem solve issues.
  • Ability to work independently, and in small or large groups.

Pathologists Assistant

The Pathologists’ Assistant provides technical services in surgical and autopsy pathology, under the supervision of a Pathologist. The position is responsible for the examination and/or preparation of pathology specimens and assisting Pathologists with post-mortem examinations. This position is also responsible, in conjunction with the Grossing Manager, for coordinating and leading technical services, and training and evaluating personnel, to ensure quality, consistency and efficiency within the Grossing Departments of affiliated hospitals.

Responsibilities:
  • In conjunction with the Grossing Manager, is responsible for administrative oversight and direction of Grossing Techs at UniPath affiliated hospitals.
  • In conjunction with Grossing Manager, ensures compliance with regulatory agencies and accepted industry standards at all locations. Prepares for accreditation inspections.
  • Responsible for coordinating employee three month, annual and QA evaluations.
  • Coordinates Grossing Tech meetings to maintain communication and ensure a cohesive work group.
  • Collaborates with others to ensure work processes and work flow meet organizational needs in accordance with established vision, mission and values.
  • Updates and maintains procedure manuals
Requirements
  • Graduate of an NAACLS approved training program; ASCP Board Certification as a Pathologists Assistant; Maintain appropriate CME’s; and Member of AAPA and ASCP
  • 2-3 years of progressively responsible experience which demonstrates the knowledge and expertise necessary to perform gross dissection and dictation of tissue, preferred.
  • Knowledge in handling chemicals and biohazard materials.

Histotechnologist - Certified or Eligible

Performs a variety of technical procedures that result in the preparation of slides necessary for the pathologists to make a diagnosis from a patient’s tissue sample. Two Full-Time positions are available: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm; or Sunday-Friday, 12:00am-8:30am. Two Per Diem positions are available: Varied hours between 11:00pm-9:30am as needed for night shift.

Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for production of routine and special histology tests.
  • Responsible for producing high quality microscopic slides.
  • Responsible for embedding tissues in paraffin.
  • Responsible for following all quality and regulatory standards required in performing tasks.
  • Responsible for maintaining effective communication between coworkers and management. Actively participates in staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Exercises good judgment in conflict resolution.
  • Responsible for maintaining the necessary levels of confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Training and eligibility or documented proficiency as Histotechnician, HT(ASCP), (NACCLS) or equivalent (recognized military training).
  • Attends continuing education activities and/or certification to maintain current knowledge and skills.
  • Minimum 2 years experience and HT(ASCP) certification or the knowledge and expertise necessary to be eligible for HT(ASCP) registry.
  • Working knowledge of all histology procedures – embedding, microtomy, tissue processing, fixation, decalcification, routine and special staining, IH and IF staining.
  • Familiar with all equipment in the histology laboratory.
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance of laboratory equipment and instruments or refers to appropriate sources for repairs.
  • Good communication and team building skills.
