HPV Testing

UniPath offers HPV testing directly from the SurePath® or ThinPrep® vial, or by using the Digene Cervical Sampler. We use the Digene Hybrid Capture II HPV DNA Assay, the only HPV test approved by the FDA.

The National Institutes of Health have concluded that HPV is present in at least 93 percent of cervical cancer. Using the Digene HPV Assay with a liquid-based Pap test, or with the Digene specimen collection kits, will help you rapidly categorize women diagnosed with ASCUS (Atypical Squamous Cells of Undetermined Significance) for treatment or follow up.

Convenience: The test simplifies HPV risk assessment for ASCUS patients. The Digene HPV Assay is performed from the same sample collected for the SurePath® or Thin Prep® liquid-based Pap tests.

Efficiency: The test provides rapid, objective HPV analysis of ASCUS patients, leading to fewer follow up procedures and office visits.

Peace of Mind: The test provides enhanced patient care by using the latest cervical cancer detection technologies.

How to order the test

UniPath gives you several ways to order HPV as an adjunctive test from the liquid-based Pap vial. The easiest way is to order the test directly on our requisition form. The form includes a checkbox to order the test if the Pap test is ASCUS (“Reflex” HPV testing). If the box is not checked, following the patient’s diagnostic report you will receive an HPV Assay request form that can be signed and faxed or mailed to us at your discretion. Of course, you can always call our lab to add the test onto an existing liquid-based Pap test. Our clients can also create a standing order for Reflex HPV on all ASCUS results.
